Your Questions About Our Raw Hair — Answered Honestly
At Tasha's Magicfingaz Hair Salon, we believe you deserve real answers before you invest in raw hair. Below is everything we can document and stand behind. We don't make claims we can't back up — and we'll always tell you what we can and can't verify.
1. What does "raw hair" actually mean?
Raw hair refers to human hair that has not been chemically processed — no perms, no relaxers, no acid baths, and no steam processing to artificially alter the texture. It is collected in its natural state and has not been factory-treated to achieve a uniform look.
Because raw hair retains its natural cuticle layer (all aligned in the same direction), it tends to be more durable, blends more naturally with various hair textures, and can be colored, heat-styled, and washed repeatedly over time.
2. Where does your hair come from?
Our raw hair is sourced from Southeast Asia, a region known for naturally coarse-to-medium hair textures that work well across a wide range of natural hair types. We work with a consistent supplier who provides hair collected in small batches rather than large factory runs.
We can share the general region of origin and the collection process for any batch. If you'd like to know more about a specific order, reach out to us directly.
3. Can you prove the hair is truly raw and unprocessed?
Here is what we can document and provide upon request:
- Batch photos and videos — We photograph and/or video each hair bundle at the time of receipt so you can see the natural texture, shed, and variation before packaging.
- Sourcing documentation — We can share supplier records that identify the batch origin and collection method for your order.
- Burn test guidance — Raw human hair burns slowly and smells like burnt protein (similar to your own hair). We can walk you through how to do a simple at-home burn test to verify authenticity.
- Texture variation — Genuine raw hair will show slight natural variation between bundles (thickness, wave pattern, color tone). If every bundle looks machine-perfect, that is a red flag for processing. Ours will show natural variation.
Here is what we cannot verify or claim: We do not have third-party laboratory certifications for our hair, and we do not make claims about individual donor identities or medical history. Any vendor claiming otherwise should be asked for actual documentation.
4. What testing do you do on the hair before selling it?
When a shipment arrives, we personally inspect each bundle for:
- Cuticle alignment (we do a simple finger-slide test along the weft)
- Excessive shedding at the weft
- Unusual smell (a sign of chemical treatment)
- Texture consistency with previous batches from the same source
We do not use a laboratory testing process. Our quality checks are hands-on and based on years of experience working with hair professionally. We will not sell bundles that do not pass our personal inspection.
5. How should I care for raw hair to make it last?
Raw hair, when cared for properly, can last significantly longer than processed hair. Here is what we recommend:
- Wash with sulfate-free shampoo — Harsh sulfates strip the natural oils and can cause dryness over time.
- Deep condition regularly — Raw hair responds well to moisture. A weekly deep conditioning treatment will keep it looking its best.
- Detangle gently — Always detangle from ends to roots using a wide-tooth comb or your fingers.
- Avoid excessive heat — While raw hair can be heat-styled, overuse of high heat will shorten its lifespan. Use a heat protectant.
- Sleep with a satin bonnet or on a satin pillowcase — This reduces friction and tangling overnight.
- Store properly — If storing unused bundles, keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
6. Can I see photos or video of my specific bundle before it ships?
Yes — for orders of 3 or more bundles, we are happy to photograph your specific bundles before shipping upon request. Simply note your request at checkout or contact us directly after placing your order, and we will send photos before the order goes out.
7. How do I request additional sourcing proof?
We are transparent and take pride in that. If you want additional documentation — batch records, supplier information, or pre-shipment photos — here is how to reach us:
- Email: Contact us through the Contact page with your order number and what you'd like to see.
- DM on social media: Reach out to us directly on our social platforms.
- In person: If you are a local client, you are welcome to ask questions at your appointment.
We will do our best to provide what we have. If we cannot verify something, we will tell you that directly rather than making a claim we cannot back up.
8. What if my hair doesn't match what was described?
We stand behind what we sell. If you receive hair that does not match the description or shows signs of being processed, contact us within 7 days of delivery with photos and we will work with you to make it right. Please review our Return & Refund Policy for full details.
Still have questions? We'd rather you ask than wonder. Reach out anytime through our Contact page.
